It's crazy for your clutch to go out during the holidays. What's worse is that its gone out twice before in the last two years. I'm in my seventies and I've been driving a manual transmission since I was in my twenties. I have never had to replace a clutch twice in the same decade let alone in the same year. Like I said, it was the holidays and my regular mechanic was closed till after the new year, and it was his guy that had done the clutch the last two time. What's more sine the last time that guy had fixed it, it had been popping out of gear. That guy called it 'operator error' anyway and I didn't want him to work on it again so this time I called the Jeep dealer near me who gave me a repair quote for more than I had spent on the car; ridiculous! That's when I called Aamco. Mike, the manager, couldn't give me a reliable quote over the phone without seeing the vehicle but he told me that even if it was the whole clutch and trans it wouldn't cost me half of what the dealer had quoted me ($15,000 dealer quote). I had it towed there that afternoon. It was done the next day. It wasn't the trans or clutch. It was the hydraulic cylinder and when it was replaced, not only did the Jeep run great, but it stopped popping out of gear too. That other guy who did the work before said it was the trans going bad and that's why it popped out. I'll be going to Aamco for my transmission from here on out. I trust Mike!
Very helpful and honest! We went in thinking we had a transmission problem but after they looked at it, they told us the transmission was ok and that the car computer had several messages and we should take it to the dealer for them to research and resolve. Provided all of the error codes to us. And all at no charge! Mike is super friendly and gave us a lot of very helpful information!!
